Upgrading drupal 6.x to 6.y

All of this is in the README.txt file included in upgrade tarball

  1. Login as superuser
  2. Back up database and backup docs folder
  3. Place the site in offline mode Administer-> Site Maintainance
  4. Switch to core theme like Garland.
  5. Disable all custom and contributed modules -> Uncheck every single module except core modules
  6. chriscoletta.com specific move sites/ and wiki/ directories into a temp folder
  7. delete everything in docs/public_html folder
  8. Copy new drupal core files into docs/public_html folder
  9. Restore old sites (and wiki) directory
  10. run update.php
  11. Reset theme
  12. Re-enable custom and contributed modules
  13. Run update.php again
  14. Return the site to online mode
